About CSI

Creative Safety Initiatives (CSI) is an ACT based organisation committed to a continuing focus on improving safety standards in the building and construction industry. Through training and industry consultation CSI hopes to reduce the number, and the severity, of accidents in the workplace.

CSI aims to accommodate the busy schedules of the building and construction industry through flexible training delivery modes. Most training can be conducted at your workplace and at a time that is suitable for your organisation.

CSI offers their clients a number of community and welfare services including counselling, social skills training and trauma response. In partnership with numerous specialised entities within the ACT – CSI also provides access to drug & alcohol rehabilitative services. The use of drug and alcohol in the building and construction industry is traditionally a serious problem in regards to worker safety- by addressing this issue directly with workers CSI expects to have continuing success in reducing accident risk and severity.

Creative Safety Initiatives represents a group of dedicated individuals who are committed to creating safe work environments and safe communities for workers. Through the provision of educational sessions and rehabilitative services CSI aims to encourage harm reduction and attitudinal change in regards to safety in the workplace.

Jason Jennings – CEO

JJ has been involved within the construction training arena since 2004. He commenced as a trainer with CSI and was initially conducting the “Drug and Alcohol Program” . Over the years, he has diversified and ultimately became the CEO of CSI in 2007. JJ has completed the following qualifications over the years:

Jess Ruffy (nee Dean) RTO Manager/EA

Jess came from an AAC (Australian Apprenticeships Centre) and has been involved within the training sector since 2006. Jess started with CSI in 2009 commencing as the receptionist and data entry operator. Since then she has broadened her skills and is now an integral part of the leadership team. Jess has completed the following qualifications over the years:

Anthony Vitler – Business Development Manager/Operations Mananger

Tony has been involved with the construction industry for 20 years. He is an electrician by trade and has an extensive background of Work Health and Safety. Tony started as a trainer with CSI in 2009 and, after spending some time within the WHS area, he has returned to CSI as the Business Development Manager/Operations Manager. Diane Vanderdong – Office Administrator

Having completed secretarial college, Diane joined CSI in 2012 with a strong background in customer service and data entry. Diane has run her own business and settled in Canberra from country NSW. Diane manages the front office and is the point of contact for CSI customers. Diane has completed the following training over the years:

Colleen Dahl- Administrative Assistant

Having also completed Secretarial College, Colleen joined CSI in 2018 and with her experience coordinating and supporting daily operations and administrative functions she is now one of two points of contact for CSI customers. Colleen has completed the following:

Duncan Bennett Burleigh – Training Officer

Duncan has worked in the building and construction industry for over 30 Years. He started as a training and welfare office in 2011. Duncan has completed the below qualifications over the past years:

Kim Knight – Training Officer

Kim has a vast background which includes working in Work Health and Safety within a range of industries including hospitality, fitness and construction. Kim has previously working in the veterinary services industry which included teaching students completing their Veterinary Surgical Nursing. She started at CSI in 2017 and has completed the below qualifications over the past years.
