This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protective equipment (RPE), within the workplace.
The unit of competency includes the planning considerations prior to using respiratory protective equipment (RPE); performing fit checking; complying with use requirements and following cleaning, maintenance, and storage of respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
The unit of competency is suitable for those working with products and materials containing crystalline silica (CS) and using respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to mitigate exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS).
Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit of competency. Relevant work health and safety (WHS) state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm jurisdictional requirements.
